The tradition of the Canterbury Bulldogs hosting the Queen’s birthday NRL match at Accor Stadium continues. However, their opponent will be Parramatta Eels instead of the St George Illawarra Dragons as it was during 2015 till 2021. Join The Roar for live scores from 4pm AEST.

The vibes across both squads could not be as different as it is currently. The Bulldogs are languishing at the bottom of the table with a points differential of -161, the worst amongst NRL teams and no head coach in the club. Meanwhile, Parramatta are lapping it up, beating Melbourne and Penrith in their den this season and eyeing the fourth spot on the table should they defeat the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs are the worst attacking team of this season thus far, scoring 160 points in this season at an average of 12.3 points per game. Despite Josh Addo-Carr scoring eight tries, the Bulldogs look lost in attack with an overreliance on Matt Burton to create magical plays instead of letting halfback Kyle Flanagan call the shots, which would free up Burton to attack without so much responsibility. Jake Averillo will continue his run at fullback with Corey Allan remaining in the centres.

As for the Eels, their fan base will welcome back the return of Fijian flyer Maika Sivo as he is set to play in his first NRL match since round 23 of the 2021 NRL season following an ACL reconstruction. Ryan Matterson, Junior Paulo and Regan Campbell-Gillard are all set to back up following a frantic opener of the 2022 State of Origin, although there could be late changes pending their fitness. Mitchell Moses will want to showcase his skills against the Bulldogs and stamp his authority to NSW coach Brad Fittler that he is good enough to play for the Blues, even as a five-eighth for Origin II.

Game information

Kick-off: 4:00pm AEST
Venue: Accor Stadium
TV/Stream: Kayo Sports, Foxtel,
Odds: Bulldogs $5.25, Eels $1.16 – odds via PlayUp

Prediction

The last thing the Eels would want is to lose to their long time local rivals and revive their season. Parramatta have plenty of firepower in attack and against a leaky Bulldogs defence, you would expect them to get the job done.

Glad to see some people get it... watching the 98 semi and just watching Paul implode is one of my favourite things to do when the Dogs have been losing a lot.

Yet another massively lopsided penalty count.. 11-4 plus 2 six agains to zip. The Eels must be the most perfect side in the comp according to officials. All that and still no win

Fitness and skills are all there for these guys at the Dogs but, these blokes haven't been playing for themselves and backing each other and having an 100% go all year, as a matter of a fact, they have been shockers and been just half pie, yes the coach has something to do with things but the most important is the players and what consequences are for not having a go and that must not be there at the Dogs.

Wow. I would like to eat some humble pie for my prediction. Never saw that coming. Mick Potter has done a wonderful job since he's come in. I said when the rabbits beat bulldogs that flanagan and burton as a halves pairing must remain for the rest of the season. And it's slowly paying off in the long term. Enjoy this Bulldogs fans. Been a few years of pain but wins like these will take Bulldogs in the right direction. They just need a bit of consistency now. Parramatta, I have no idea what to say. Always felt Arthur has overachieved with an average roster and it's starting to come evident now. A side that hasn't played a prelim final in over a decade is never a premiership contender for beating two top teams and it shows in the Eels mentality. Hope you all enjoyed my call and see you all soon.

Round 25 last year when they beat Wests 38-0. Last time they put 30 on a serious football team was round 25, 2019 when the beat Brisbane 30-14.

The difference a coach can make. This game showed there is talent in Canterbury, all they needed was someone to put it all together. Barrett is a good assistant but not quite there as boss coach.

Nonsense, the coach makes a huge difference in building confidence and working on defence. Even simple things like passing closer to the line in attack and a faster sliding defence..that's down to the coach. Word was before the season that Barrett didn't work hard on the Dogs fitness nor was he very meticulous in game prep. He's also never been good at firing teams up.

Can anyone do a David Middleton here on this site? When was the last time where Canterbury scored more than 30 points in a game?
