NRL journalist's savage bake for 'arrogant', 'disrespectful' Panthers

By The Roar / Editor

The Daily Telegraph’s Paul Crawley believes Stephen Crichton should have been suspended, for pulling Raider Joe Tapine into their try celebration.

LM dosent go on stupid like that, come off it, he selebrates but to a limit, not patting oppostion players on the head like Munster and these out of control Panther clowns have done and are getting worse at it. That incident in the 64th minute last Friday is going to get worse, good on Crocker for having an appropriate go on camera, which I thought was great! The Panthers had the game won and there was no need for that sort of a low act, it’s never been a part of RL except and just recently, it’s very bad look and if the NRL doesn’t stamp this out, the NRL will end up a circus like soccer is with all their disgraceful acts after a goal.

Exactly right. The Panthers brains trust must have been thrilled when this draw was announced.

This comment prompted me to take a look into the Panthers draw. It’s insane! The only potential contender they play away from home before Rd20 is the Rabbitohs, and that’s in Dubbo. They were never going to dodge magic round. Suppose Titans at their “2nd home ground” could count. A trip to NZ during the Origin period definitely rates a mention too. The rest of their away games before Rd20 (Bulldogs, Sea Eagles, Broncos, Tigers, Sharks) they’ll be roaring favourites. The only possible challenge if the Sharks aren’t unsettled. The minor premiership could more than likely be settled already.

that's it mate - the NHL (ice hockey) have a 3rd person in you're gone for the game rule - need to bring it in here

mate would have loved to see Spud or Chief unload on that pr!ck. Looking at his pic on the foxtel web page - he's got the most punchable head eh.

Ennis was the greatest coward I've seen take the field. A serial hit and run merchant who hid behind his teammates and when the no punch rule came in he hid behind the rule, niggling opponents. When he stirred up the Canberra crowd after a game he hid within the playing area knowing he was safe. He's lucky he played in the relatively tame era in which he did rather than in the 60's, 70's, 80's or nineties when he would have had a mere one season career if that because of a complete rearrangement of his head. I know of an incident at Newcastle when he was a youngster and he niggled a bloke at training, a bloke no sensible person would niggle. Ennis needed serious protection from the hard nut. He didn't stay at Newcastle very long. In six decades following RL there is only one person who has played the game I have ever used the word coward in describing. If Ennis didn't play RL he would have made a name for himself somewhere as a king hitter, the lowest of the low.

Me too, he was hilarious. So far away from the temperament he used to have.

Thumbs up to Joe Tapine, he looked so disinterested in what the brash panthers did, and kind of let it ride with humor, was rightly firm but didn't let it get out of control with those silly boys. Won my admiration.

 I'm sure you would. But I don't think anyone wants to face the Panthers in the GF, because that last part of your comment is the key. I actually didn't tip Penrith to win this year, but I'm questioning my judgement, they are looking extremely good.

Why tuck it away, that happened in the 64th minute. Canberra tackled the next set and the one after that like nothing had happened. Cause nothing extraordinary did.

Dominant as a result of playing lowly teams very often, they got what they deserved in the GF last season and if it takes that long again, it'll happen again.

it would be some kind of justice if that did happen....

Exactly - Panthers have another easy schedule thanks to somebody at NRL HQ.

Agree - the patting of the head after a bloke drops the ball is becoming an epidemic - Moses did it to one of the Tigers players a couple of weeks ago - and it almost came back to bite him - hate that sort of disrespect from players that haven't earned the right to dish it out

I'd be happier if the Raiders busted up the Panthers in the GF - and win the game more importantly

They might, just might be entitled to be cocky when they've won a premiership or two. At the moment, they're just a good team who failed their big test last year.

Easy fixed though. Just send off/sin bin whoever starts or escalates situations by being a knob, regardless of whether punches happen or not.

Ennis was a massive pest - but to be fair he carried on in an era when he could get belted (and did)...
