The Rebels clash with the Waratahs in this all-Aussie derby. Join The Roar from 7:45pm (AEST) for the inter-state contest at AAMI Park.
The Rebels are on 33 points, just one point behind the table-topping Brumbies, heading into this one.
Victory would put them top and pile more pressure on the ACT going into their game this weekend against the Sunwolves.
On the other side of the fence the Waratahs are in third place on the table with 26 points, and it really is win or else for the NSW outfit.
Victory would keep their season alive but another loss, following last weekend’s heart-breaking defeat to the Jaguares, would be a nail in their coffin.
They go into this game without injured centre Karmichael Hunt, who has been replaced by Lalakai Foketi. Curtis Rona is back on the wing with Cameron Clark making way.
The Rebels have made several changes to their forward pack with Anaru Rangi, Luke Jones and Isi Naisarani all back in. Matt Toomua has been named at inside centre for his first start.
Backs Billy Meakes and Tom English are on the bench along with Ross Haylett-Petty, the young brother of fullback and Wallaby Dane.
The battle between the halves of Bernard Foley and Nick Phipps, against Quade Cooper and Will Genia for the Australian spots, should also be intriguing.
Prediction
The Tahs have to win to have any hope at all of a semi-finals spot, while the Rebels need to get back on the horse and put pressure on the Brumbies in top spot. At home the Rebels should have too much in the tank.
Rebels to win by seven points.

I'm sure last week games will effect this game. Rebels smashed the Moondogs and everything they tried worked and tries came really EASY

Fair enough. He is certainly much much better than he used to be. Credit where credit is due to him there.

I thought they got the Foley incident spot on. All three had eyes for the ball and in realistic places to catch it. Foley was just unlucky (and very brave). The Genia try should have been called back for sure, not sure how the tmo missed that. Other than that every 50/50, 60/40 seemed to go the way of the tahs. I found myself yelling at the tv and I didn’t even have a dog in the fight. The Tah played better and deserved the win but the refereeing made it hard to watch.

What’s one of them? Waratahs second try came after a knock on at the line out. Maybe 2 and a possible offside. Then there’s the fact momentum killers were incorrect. The Miller “pilfer” in the last 5 was a clear penalty. The Rona penalty by the laws has to be a penalty try and YC.

Pretty much agree with everything you said except for Naisarani who I thought was damn near invisible along with Luke Jones. I thought neither of them did their RWC chances much good. Philip I thought was very good. Why the Rebels stood Maddocks at 13 in defence was a poor move because AAC scholled him in attack and defence. Will Genia is seriously off the boil. I can't remember a single run from him, his service was slow and his kicking was very very poor. I thought Phipps outplayed him.

Yeah, you could be right. Still definitely one of the weaker kiwi sides, but better than they were, and on current form favourites against the Rebels. Still, a beatable opponent in a way the Saders aren’t I think.

I think the Chiefs started rubbish, but improved as the season went on and after they took DM out of flyhalf.

Coopers try deserved a TMO look for only about 5 different reasons. Such is life. Rebels star studded backline and pack should've put a pile of points on the Tahs last night. If they cannot win arm wrestles they will never go far in the finals.

How many Wallabies each? 10 v 13. Well if you consider Naisarani as a Wallaby as he would be if a game was played since April its 10 v 14. But its not about Wallabies. Ask most people, even after the game, how many Tahs would make a combined 15 from last night. I bet the answer does not exceed 2 (Kepu and Hooper). I don't think the Tahs have done that poorly this year overall. A couple of poor games, but what team hasn't? They have been in the contest every game. Compared to last year almost every aspect of their game has improved. The only thing lacking is strike power. TN and Folau have been huge losses that have not been replaced.

Also hard not to penalize and yellow card Cottrell for taking out Foley in the air, accidental or not. Also hard to award the Rebels a try when Meakes knocked on in the lead up, Korobiete picked the ball up in an offside position and then Korobiete's last pass was a mile forward. I reckon both sides got some fortunate decisions mate.

Well, you haven’t included 2019 in the last five years, which makes me raise an eyebrow, and you also neglect to note those years when the team doesn’t too the conference. In 2014 and 15 Brumbies still made semis both years despite. Tahs haven’t even made the finals any year that they didn’t top the conference I think we’ve been hearing rver since 2016, every season, that the Brumbies under performed. This is despite the fact that Brumbies also went through a rebuild after losing most of JakeWhite’s team a few years ago (Moore, Fardy, Pocock in 2017, Vaea, White, Lilo fo cancer, Tomane, Toomua and Mogg). Starting 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15 at various points. The Tahs haven’t gone through that yet.

Not sure you can say I’m stretching reality when I’ve provided the years each franchise was the best performing Australian side (completed seasons). But, in any case, my overall point stands. People continue to say that the Tahs underperform. Year after year. Yet, clearly, over the past 15 years they have been the best performing Australian side (3 x Super Finals, 1 x Title). And pretty consistent to boot. But agree that it’s neck and neck for the Tahs and Brumbies in recent years. And if the Brumbies top the conference in 2019 (as they are likely to do) then they’ll jump ahead. It’s funny though you never hear people saying the Brumbies have underperformed, yet they’ve had similar seasons to the Tahs. As I said it’s tough to shift perceptions.

Pretty sure the tahs have never won without the ref's assistance.

Brumbies the only team that can play more then one game plan. Tahs play with a pack of loose forwards (hence why they always narrowly lose, they are fast in cover defence but never have dominance) and Rebels constantly looking for the miracle ball

Even beating the Brums and Landers would put us on 38 points (assuming no BP wins) but if there is one thing this 2019 Tahs team won't do it's lie down. Got to be a record for losing bonus points. They have enough grit in them to roll the Brums and even surprise with an away win against a Kiwi side. Unlikely but possible. Hope springs eternal in the sky blue!

Paul Williams made sure of that result. I accept refereeing mistakes. But using the tmo to go back for a knock on that didn’t result in a try is a first. Especially when they couldn’t go back a futher 5 seconds to confirm the first knock on. Hard not to award a penalty try to korebite also.

Last 5 years is 2019-15 Tahs - 2018, 2015 (2) Brums - 2017, 2016 and likely 2019 Brumbies only missed out on finals in 2018, Tahs didn’t make finals in 2017 or 2016. Last 10 years is 2019-10 Tahs - 2018, 2015, 2014, 2010 Bru - 2017, 2016, 2013 and likely 2019 Tahs missed out of finals in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017 and likely 2019 (5); Brumbies missed out in 2011, 2012 and 2018 likely (3). I think it’s stretching reality a bit to say that the Tahs have had more consistent success in the last 5 and 10 years, although the 2014 title is without doubt the most important thing to happen.

Cam certainly has reinvented the game. He has changed his position to Quarterback - I’m only assuming that’s why he throws so many forward passes from dummy half. And introduced himself as the FMO - Forth Match Official - again assuming this is why he advises the ref so much.

With a little hindsight, I wonder how much last week games affected this game. Rebels smashed the Moondogs and everything they tried worked and tries came oh so easy. Tahs played a "test side" who gave them nothing for free and tested their resolve for the full 80 minutes.
