I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

And he wouldn’t be a Top 30 Wallaby anyhow. Probably 7th ranked at 6? Wouldn’t start at Brums, Tahs, Reds or Force. Arguably though he’s the type of player we lose most often. Guy mid career just outside Wallabies selection. Can earn more as a journeyman in the NH than in Aus unfortunately. We don’t have the money. Back to my original point who can afford to take even our top 15 Wallabies? The market isn’t that big.

Scrap the Giteau Law: Rugby Australia should look to Rassie's 'Boks RWC recipe if it wants to re-join the big boys' table

Has anyone done an assessment the actual OS market size for Aussie players? Imagine if our top 30 Wallabies were all on the market today – which clubs could actually afford them? P&L in URC and Prem clubs are stuffed. Japan has money but big restrictions on number of foreign players. France has a lot of money but they still try to prioritise local players. Sure Leinster may be able to stump up €1m for Tupou but that’s their budget kind of gone. Who’s paying €1m for Bell next?

To be honest I’ll be surprised if Hoops makes Paris. 7s is so specialist these days and a young man’s game that even a legend like Hoops is up against it. Also the men’s team, at full strength, has good depth. Add Toole back and it’s lethal.

'Massive boost': No Hoops but Aussie men's sevens get welcome surprise for Perth, women name formidable team

Super summary Christy. Re TRC expansion to Fiji and Japan are there and reasons (stated of otherwise) to not do it ASAP? I can only imagine that including Fiji would be a net drain on profitability of the comp as they wouldn’t bring enough new revenue. Surely that would be outweighed by adding Japan?

Five things: RWC quarters deliver rugby's greatest weekend, Cheika's timely Wallabies reminder, officiating wild west

What I took from the Waugh response to your question Brett was that he was open minded. Brilliant! He had a legit concern about connecting with grassroots but not at the expense, necessarily, of what the best 3rd tier solution is. Can’t wait to hear more after the stakeholders get together in the next week or so.

Thinking about connecting with grassroots, and saving money, the Super AU sides can just play at domestic grounds. Super AU doesn’t need Suncorp or Allianz. A Rat Park though…

RA's target of a third tier in 2024 raises a whole heap of questions in desperate need of answers

Only the Red Roses are full time. The rest in the clubs are part time like our Super W players. Only difference right now is the English club season is longer so they are semi-pro for a decent length season.

Cattle class-flying Wallaroos blow up at RA's double standards, question big money Suaalii move

We haven’t historically had a great kciking game this past 15 years so it’s mental trying to force a kick heavy game plan on this team right now. IMO the areas where we need to be better from kicking is 22 exits and contestables. For exits you need a Reece Hodge style boot or lazer accurate box kick that is contested. Once we’re in the opposition half then build phases and resort to kicks to break rush D or for obvious cross field opps. Simple. Exit our half as quick as possible and let the boys play in the opposition half.

The two-week observation: The Wallabies can play low possession rugby OR find the Australian way – but not both

The other thing about cohesion, and low cohesion teams, is you can adopt a play style to match. So for instance Leinster/Ireland can play super disciplined multi-phase rugby because they are cohesive. If you asked say the Western Force from this year to do that it’d be a disaster. Given Eddie has talked about a low possession game plan I think this is going to help with the fact his Wallabies aren’t going to be super high on cohesion. If we get our kick chase right and compete at set piece/breakdown then we are a shot against SA.

For a fan of cohesion, Eddie Jones sure has made his first Wallabies Tests selection a tricky one

Thought about it but hasn’t played enough 12 this year or more recently – think this weekend is his 4th start at 12 for the Reds. He gets utility back spot 10/12/13/15 coverage on a bench if he is in the squad. Not starting him. I’m looking more “team of the year 12” than actual RWC squad though. Don’t think Stewart or Tua will be in the squad and Hunter and JOC better chances based on past form. Picking today on form though I go with my original selections.

Australia has the world's best player in the 'death wish' position - but what happens if his hamstring pings?

Kerevi, Foketi, Daylight, Stewart, Tua, Paisami,

Disagree. This is a great move, if it was actually planned by EJ, to make the players work for it. Jerseys, even training ones, aren’t given out for fun.

COMMENT: Plenty of excuses but no excuse as Wallabies look like a squad of randoms playing park footy

Really great stuff and demistifying a lot of what’s important in rugby. Still need a competitive set piece and to play in the opponents half and to make minimal errors. Simple when viewed through that lens!

Please dear god let Andrew Forest take a run at this PE buy out. A guy who genuinely has the game’s interests at heart. Not some Seppo PE firm.

Re the cynical “not forming a lineout or scrum” possibility isn’t there an “unsportsmanlike conduct” law or something where the ref can just give a penalty if a player or team is being a pillock but not technically infringing one of our many laws? Could easily see that employed to get around the Turinui play.

Law variations that will get Super Rugby Pacific moving – and one that won’t make any difference

OK so just better execution of the same tactic I guess?

ANALYSIS: Why the first week of 6N was a resounding success for the Wallabies and Eddie Jones

Don’t France kick long as well? What makes their long kicking game successful?

Fun exercise this far out.

Reckon Philip is straight into the squad. Rennie loves him and he’s like insurance, only miss him when you don’t have him.

Other player is Charlie Gamble. He’ll push McReight out of the squad.

Predicted 2023 RWC squad: 19 forwards, 14 backs and FIVE overseas picks

Interesting. I guess all we ever here about is winning the collisions etc and forward dominance. Not what we want to actually do with the ball. Seems a bit simplistic – blast over the gainline then hope front foot ball is enough with some “heads up rugby” to score points.

ANALYSIS: Time to pray Australia, because it's Quade Cooper or bust for the RWC. And when he's gone there's no one else

Cheers Nic I’ll dig that article up. What’s the go with Wisemantel? Is he not as great an attack coach as we thought or is it they we don’t have the cattle for a fancy game plan?

ANALYSIS: Time to pray Australia, because it's Quade Cooper or bust for the RWC. And when he's gone there's no one else

It’s mind blowing that our attack is so poor when we have Scott Wisemantel who is regarded as one of the best attack coaches going around. Do you think it’s a case of the 10s not being up to it so Wisemantel has developed an attack which isn’t so reliant on the 10?

I’ve seen other comments about Foley that even though he doesn’t get as mnay touches at first receiver he’s better and calling the plays and organising the attack than Lolesio. I never played 10 so can’t comment but I’ve seen this analysis out there.

Still, pray for Quade.

Gamble is eligible early next year I believe! As a Tahs fan he was the find of the year. Can’t wait. Like a bigger more abrasive version of McReight. Not so good on the link but can make metres in tight. He’s a bit older too with a good chunk of rugby under his belt, even if not all at the top level, so unlike the 21 year old next big things we always seem to laud he comes with game smarts built in.

ANALYSIS: The Pete Samu weakness that makes Hoops a must start when he's ready to reclaim Wallabies' No.7 jersey

Super insightful as usual again Nic. Not sure we should be surprised given Samu doesn’t even play 7 in the Brums. With no real open side we had 3 6/8 sytle back rowers. Good on the carry maybe but average on defence. Hooper can come back when ever he wants and Waltz back into the 7 jersey as far as I’m concerned. Would be interested on your take of Samu at 6 though Nic? He takes a lot of lineout ball and clearly showed his chops as a ball runner. Is he a better shout there than Leota or Holloway in the current squad? Or could the Wallabies take a leaf out of the Saffa or English playbook and run an extra second rower at 6 like Frost?

Play on. Half back can knock the ball on if they want the penalty ASAP. This used to happen.

Law the players hate most in spotlight as World Rugby sanctions trial aimed at speeding up the game

It’s 60 seconds for penatly kick for goal. If going for touch the existing rule applies i.e. “without delay”, whatever that means.
