Australia will welcome South Africa to Fortress Suncorp on Saturday in a test match full of pressure and tension as we kick off another weekend of Rugby Championship double-header in Brisbane from 5:05pm (AEST).

After the incredible result last round, the Wallabies will want to show that it wasn’t just their lucky night whilst the Springboks will be desperate to fight back and show that their set piece is not as brittle as it looked at times. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog.

Unsurprisingly the Wallabies haven’t made too many changes with Dave Rennie sticking with many of the starting 15 who fought so hard against the World Champions.

The major change that Rennie has made is to give Nic White the no.9 jersey ahead of Tate McDermott. White played very well in the final phase of last week’s victory over the Springboks and his tactical and kicking game are stronger than McDermott’s.

Michael Hooper will lead the Wallabies for the 60th time and overtakes George Gregan for the most tests as captain. He’ll be joined in the back row by Lachie Swinton and Rob Valetini.

The other changes that Rennie has made are in the front row where James Slipper will start with Taniela Tupou. Tupou will make his second start of 2021 at his home ground and will be eager to repeat the Wallabies scrum dominance over the Boks. Rennie and his team have been preparing for a strong reaction from the South Africans. “we’re well aware of the ferocity that a wounded Springboks outfit will bring to Suncorp Stadium” he commented this week.

In the backs there are no other changes with Rennie resisting the idea of bringing James O’Connor even though the playmaker has been declared fit. Quade Cooper – whose selection last week was called risky and foolish by some – was arguably the second name on the team sheet after Hooper thanks to his controlled and effective performance last week.

There has been plenty of talk from the Boks about how angry they were at both the loss and the way their pack was bullied at times by the Wallabies. Prop Trevor Nyakane, who will start at loosehead, commented this week that “it’s deep in our hearts; it’s sore, it’s buried in the back of our minds.”

Coach Jacques Nienaber has only made one other change with Marvin Orie joining Eben Etzebeth in the second row as he trusts in the team who started on the Gold Coast to bounce back well in Brisbane.

The Boks understandably want to retain their Rugby Championship title and Nienaber is clear about the challenge ahead. “Our next three matches will be similar to playing a quarter-final, semi-final and final if we want to defend our Castle Lager Rugby Championship title, and we are under no illusions about what it will take to achieve this” explained the Boks coach this week.

Prediction
The Wallabies have won their last eight tests at Suncorp and the Boks haven’t won in Australia in either years. Both those stats will change tonight as the Boks put in a better performance and sneak a win.

I suspect a bit of both thought more the latter. Come on mate! Toss that black stuff in the rubbish bin and buy some green and gold! :silly:

Very pleasing win, more so because we actually scored tries AND because we went two-in-a-row. However, this is a sign, not a presentation of positive proof that we have arrived. We have just found the start of the path we need to be on. The Boks were shocking last night - they lost because they simply made more mistakes than us. Their dour style suits us as the stop-start nature of such a play can allow us to regroup. It is the sustained and rapid-fire pressure all over the ground that the ABs apply that we cannot handle. That is the bench mark. Improvement is clear and offers hope; but there is still so much to do. We still are poor when the ball is in the air; scrums, while improving, are not world class; line outs need more work; handling in improvised play is still a worry; dumb penalties. Enjoy it for all the right reasons. Pray that what we have seen in the last week will continue to grow.

Great game to watch at suncorp. Our line out was strong, our forwards defended the maul consistently and cooper found grass many times with long kicks. Ikatau clearing kicks are a bonus , I’m biased as I caught one ! The back line is starting to fire. Paul cully game most backs a 8 but cooper and white in 7s , I don’t get that, clearly the 9/10 are running a fluent backline and kicking was best I’ve seen for a while. In mauls the refs IMO need to enforce the immediate use when stationary , too often it shuffles , pauses, resets, shuffles etc - especially 5-10 m from tryline if it stops for a second it should be use it now . Well done wallabies

Probably going to be an error ridden dud affair with lots of kicking and missed forward passes. Penalties every minute.

It appears we are back to No1 due to a quirk of this game technically being classed as a hoke game for Argentina. quite weird id say why not just play the game as no game field advantage as that in reality is what it was.

Terrific win. Beautifully constructed and well deserved. The two important things for mine are the proof we do have the talent to compete. The second is the importance of the right coaches. The game plan and selection balance has finally been spot on. Well done. :stoked:

The All Blacks will honour the World Champion Springboks by fielding their strongest team they can muster for the historic 100th test match next week . They will honour the World Champion Springboks by being relentless and unyielding in strength and skill backed by a proud nation of less than 5 million . They will pay homage to legends such as the great Pinetree Meads, the Panther Waka Nathan, the mercurial Sid Going, the Strongman Sean Fitzpatrick and the big man himself Jonah Lomu to name a few who have had the privilege of facing the Springboks . ALL who have lived and died to be an immortal All Black and humbled to wear the Silver Fern will be represented next week by 23 men. 23 Men in a Black Jersey driven by excellence and determined to leave their mark in All Black folklore . The All Blacks vs Springboks game is going to be EPIC and I for one can’t wait!

ATW, I dare say that the last two weeks have seen a slither of composure missing from the Bled games. Hard to say now what a difference it would make, but 5 weeks of Kerevi would’ve been better than two, probably. And there is also the pesky issue of an older head at 10, steering the attack. (And I like Noah, Carter and the two Tah joeys).

I’d usually agree with you on the forgone conclusions.. Not this time. The Boks are in serious trouble. My preview.. The All Blacks will finally Release Kapa O Pango Haka. They’ve been saving it for South Africa all year. From the kick off the All Blacks will be ruthless and unforgiving. The ABs will want to make an example of SA and send a warning to Northern Hemisphere rugby. This delusional idea that rugby is won without the ball or on defence alone. Has come to a very ugly end. The Wallabies have already sent shockwaves through to the misguided people who actually believed that SA tactics were genuine and effective. The teams who utilities similar tactics will also need a serious rethink before the Wallabies and the All Blacks turn up on their doorsteps.

Hi faith..it was just sad to see a legendary player having a go at a young player finding his feet at test level in a studio by comparing him to well established test player or not living up to expectation.. questioning if he has the ability..

It’s all good mate. As an Aussie, I’ve been guilty of talking she-ite too early as well and my team(s) getting promptly cleaned up afterwards. If anything it makes it more enjoyable for the opposition supporters! I think your lads will front against the All Blacks, there is too much history there. Those results are by no means foregone conclusions.

As a Springbok supporter I would like to thank all my fellow South African's who have persisted in over-selling this team and engaging in trash talk. THIS MOMENT IS EXACTLY WHY YOU DONT DO THAT. Whilst I have always remained humble, respectful, and realistic this day would come I am now left to search for a rock under which to hide thanks to you .It's time to wave the white flag and give up the fight. Time to admit that the Springboks are just not up there, and that's been clear for a while. A game plan fraught with danger, and requires pinpoint accuracy to succeed. It simply cannot succeed long term, on the pitch and in the public's eyes. Too much stubbornnessand arrogance with the management and not a care in the world of outsider attitudes and perceptions. We have the players, just don't have the plan. And Rassies outburst adds to us now officially being the laughing stock of the world. And I make my comment with complete respect to Australia, they have been a different team the last 2 games and deserve it all. I cannot see how 4 losses on the trot is now avoidable. These losses would have been way easier to take had I not been following social media for last few weeks and months.

Brilliant strategy by the Springboks to trick the All Blacks into thinking we're this bad before our 100th Test :silly:
