Its world cup year and the perfect time to begin the age old debate and to lift anticipation for the event. To begin I will submit my starting 15 for the greatest rugby team of all time.

It must be said that at 28 years of age my team will obviously dominated by the modern era however old tapes and highlights have given me insight into some of the older buggers

15. Serge Blanco (JPR Williams a close second but Serge had more character)

14. David Campese (normally no 11 but has to accommodate a “giant” of the game
13. Frank Bunce
12. Tim Horan (Phillipe Sella is close but did not contribute as much to the professional era)
11. Jonah Lomu
10. Michael Lynagh (Barry John, Phil Bennett are up there but Lynagh had it all)
9. Gareth Edwards (possibly the best player of all time, George Gregan will never be forgot)
8. Zinzan Brooke (he changed the way a no 8 plays)
7. Michael Jones (awesome)
6. George Smith (most underrated player of all time)
5. Martin Johnson (capt)
4. John Eales
3. Olo Brown
2. Sean Fitzpatrick
1. Jason Leonard

Let me know what you think.

It must be noted that of the last 20 years of rugby only 3 players in my opinion are worthy of the term great. That is a startling discovery that highlights that something is seriously lacking in the professional era.
