Football Federation Australia will scour the world to find their new Young Socceroos and AIS coach following the resignation of Steve O’Connor.

FFA head of football development John Boultbee said the federation expected to receive applications from both Australia and overseas for the post, which became vacant after O’Connor recently took up the position of technical director at A-League club Sydney FC.

The new coach will manage the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and national under-20s men’s football program, with their first major assignment being the Asian under-19 Championships in Saudi Arabia in November.

“We are confident of attracting applications from the best coaches in Australia, as well as overseas, for this position,” said Boultbee.

“This will be a significant addition to our senior national coaching staff … the current group of players involved in the under-20s program are expected to feature heavily in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games, 2015 Asian Cup and 2018 World Cup.”
