Memo to England: adopt the new ELVs laws!

Is anyone really surprised the Europeans are trying to knock the ELVs on the head and stick to their boring, and unsuccessful brand of rugby?

I am!

I don’t have the exact win-loss ratio over the past five years, but I know that the Southern Hemisphere teams dominate that ratio and also that they won 13 out of 14 games on the Spring tour last year.

England are also the only Northern Hemisphere team to win a Rugby World Cup. It took them eight years to build that team and even then they only just scraped home.

Why wouldn’t they take up the new laws?

They are so far behind the Southern Hemisphere teams in terms of fitness and skills.

Think about it: every time a half arm penalty at the breakdown is awarded, you have the option to take the tap or pack a scrum.

So if I was England (pre-Wallaby spring tour demoralisation!), I would be packing scrums all day and wearing out the opposition forward pack.

The real problem here is that the Northern powers know they have lost the edge in their old laws and are now even further behind if they adopt the ELVs.

If the Northern Hemisphere boys want my advice they can have it: take yourselves down to the pub, get over your outdated laws and woeful win-loss ratio against the Southern Hemisphere, and adopt the new laws.
