Manly Sea Eagles take on Penrith Panthers in the NRL’s round six. Get The Roar‘s live scores and join our live commentary chat from 7.00pm AEST.
After a terrible off season the Sea Eagles started the 2012 season looking the goods. Impressive wins against some very good opponents had many suggesting the Sea Eagles would be in with a big chance of retaining their title.
Then, injuries and suspensions started to take the toll, and here we are in round 6 and with the Sea Eagles having lost three games in a row.
On the other side of the field, the Penrith Panthers have probably exceeded expectations so far this season as Ivan Cleary looks to rebuild the club.
Losing last week at home against the Sharks probably took a bit of the wind out of their sails and while they probably lack the ability to put a lot of points on decent opposition, they are certainly no easy beats this season.
This will be the Sea Eagles first home game of the season, and what a time for it to happen. They will be boosted by the return of Jamie Lyon who should help their defense out wide.
You have to favour the Sea Eagles in this game. They really need this win to get their season back on track. If they lose this, making it four losses in a row, it wouldn’t take too much to push their season into free fall.
Just ask the Tigers.

Sea Eagles 30 Panthers 0 – As for Penrith, that was pathetic really. They just didn’t turn up for a tough contest. Too soft, they looked terrible when they went wide. Up the middle they were not in the contest. Only Coote can really hold his head high.

Sea Eagles 30 Panthers 0 – Hard to pick Manlys best. Jason King and Daley Cherry-Evans were both brilliant. Lyon set up a couple of tries, Williams got the job done. Just a great win for the Manly club after dealing with so many injuries. They crowd was over 14,000 too.

Sea Eagles 30 Panthers 0 – Penrith kick the ball deep. Kite runs it back. On that last run it looks like Panthers Kevin Kingston has hurt his forearm or shoulder. That sums up Penriths night really. That was a great win by Manly. Dominant and composed. Game over!

Sea Eagles 3- Panthers 0 – 77 minutes gone. manly have completed 32/36 sets of six. Thats says it all. They are ino the Panthers half now. Evans chips it for himself, kicks again, and Watmough scored on the right hand side of the field. Now the score line really shows the difference between these two teams. Kick to come.

They have dominated the Panthers pack. They get to the Panthers 40 meter line and kick deep. Coote juggles it but its play on. Get get its 20 out from his own line with an elusive tackle.Penrith just dont even looked bothered right now. They get to the half way line and Weston maked 15 meters with a good run. Walsh puts up a bomb and Burns knocks it on. Manly have the ball 12 out from their line.

Sea Eagles 14 Panthers 0 – 66 minutes gone and Manly have the ball on their own 30 meter line after the deep kick. They are making more and more meters up the middle now as the Panthers start to tire. They go right and Lyon flicks it back on the inside to Williams. DCE puts a nice kick back to the middle and its anyones ball. Penrith dont cover it up and Steve Matai looks to have scored. Video referee decision…..

Penrith scrambling defense somehow stopped a try on the right hand side of the field!

Sea Eagles 8 Panthers 0 – Well, Manly are keeping it very simple and it is really working. They are not really looked troubled at all in defense. For the Panthers, they are not making meters up the middle at all. When they go wide, they look disjointed. Might Jennings had been having to pull off circus catches every time he gets the ball. Coote has been very good for the Panthers. For the Sea Eagles, Daley Cherry-Evans has controlled play well. King and Watmough have given good go forward. Liam Foran hasnt tried to over play, he’s doing just what they need from him.

They Panthers get to the half way line. They kick on the last through Walsh and he puts the bomb up. Well taken by Manly on their own 20 meter line. They make more good meters up field and get a penalty as Williams is pushed over the sideline as the siren goes. manly will get one last play. They are 38 meters out from the Panthers line. DCE goes for a field goal but my Grandmother would have kicked it further. The Panthers look to attack but once again, its a mess. The play is blown dead and we are at half time.

Sea Eagles 0 Panthers 0 – Good fenesive set by Manly. The Panthers only made 20 meters in that set. They kick deep and now Manly work it out of their own half. They get over half way and are into Panthers territory for the first time tonight. Good go forward. DCE kicks high but Coote takes it easily and the Panthers are working it out of their own ten meters.

I’ve got a feeling that who ever wins this game, they will use it as a spring board to set up the rest of their season. It is going to be really hard for the Sea Eagles with all the injuries and suspensions they are dealing with.
