It’s the second edition of the Sydney Derby as the Sydney Swans take on the GWS Giants from ANZ Stadium. Live scores as they happen from 7:40pm AEST.

Build this match up as much as you like in the papers, on the box and on the wireless, it’s hard to see much of a rivalry just yet between these two teams.

Greater Western Sydney is still in its infancy and won’t really challenge too hard for another 18 months or so.

This season is all about building a strong core group of players for the Giants, with the ability to build and build over the next couple of seasons.

Having seen the likes of Jeremy Cameron, Jonathon Patton, Dylan Shiel and Toby Greene gives you a lot of belief that this side will have a lot of up-side in the next couple of seasons.

However, we’re also realistic – they won’t be able get past the Sydney Swans today – surely?

The Swans are building towards another “under the radar” finals appearance. Though this year it seems as if the drums have beaten a little louder than usual.

Some of that has to do with the razzle-dazzle of Lewis Jetta, who’s setting the AFL on fire this season after a really tough pre-season which involved mirroring the work of Kieren Jack as well as his own usual work.

Sydney’s strength has been the amazing consistency of some of their experienced players – Jarrad McVeigh, Ryan O’Keefe, Ben McGlynn, Jude Bolton.

Adam Goodes returning to the lineup last week was a welcome inclusion, however didn’t have his usual impact. Expect to see him improve on his second outing in seven weeks.

Last week it was Andrejs Everitt who won the day for the Swans against Geelong after a blistering start but a massive wobble in the middle. Can he back that up tonight with a strong performance up forward?

Tonight though the Swans have themselves a golden opportunity to build some much needed percentage onto the ladder – something that will become extremely important come the end of the season.
