Daniel Geale has won an unanimous points victory over Anthony Mundine in Sydney, eclipsing ‘The Man’ over 12 hard-fought rounds.

The judges’ scorecards read 116-112, 117-111, 117-111 in favour of ‘Real Deal’ Geale, with the bout finishing just after midnight local time.

Geale retained the IBF Middleweight belt with the victory. He was humble to the end of an absorbing fight, but did mention in the post-fight interview “I did enjoy punching him (Mundine) tonight.”

Geale was ahead on most pundit scorecards, with some predicting a complete round lockout (120-108), but judges gave either three or four rounds to Mundine.

Mundine stormed from the arena after the scores were read out, claiming he’d been robbed. His walkout was typical of his pre-fight talk – showing little humility and zero class. Mundine had fought a tough fight and deserved to be proud of his efforts.

A delay after the fight before the scorecards were announced provided tense moments as scores were tallied, counted, re-counted and checked again, before the unanimous victory was read out to the relief of the crowd.
