Police find vials at Gold Coast stadium

On the day the Australian Crime Commission announced evidence of illicit substance abuse in various sports, a police training operation uncovered suspicious vials at the Gold Coast’s major stadium, News Limited reports.

Police making a bomb detection sweep discovered what were believed to be vials of urine hidden in dressingroom plumbing and sent the items to the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority (ASADA).

Gold Coast Titans use the stadium and the NRL club’s operations boss, Ian Buchanan, said the discovery was a mystery.

But he told News Limited the vials could have been put there by any sporting team that used the ground.

“The Rugby Sevens were played there in October and there was a rugby Test between Australia and Argentina in September,” he said.

“There is more than one tenant at Skilled Park and I certainly don’t think it’s fair to point the finger at us.

“It (the urine) could even have been left there from the soccer days (when the now-defunct Gold Coast United played at Skilled Park).”

The Titans played their last 2012 home game at the venue in early September and resumed training in November.
