My love for the fantasy footy draft

I have been an NRL fantasy football player for years now and mostly sticking with salary cap versions of the game. I went out at the start of this season and got my league to take part in the draft version of the game.

While I know that this has been around for years already, it has been the first time that it has been more advertised and available for free on the NRL.com website and so I thought that I’d give it a crack.

So I got me eight-man league together and we set up our draft by picking a horse in a race and depending on the horses position is the order we used for our draft picks.

I pulled fourth pick and grabbed a very much in form Robbie Farah with my first pick.

Currently in the semi-finals now and looking back, I cannot believe that this is only the first time that I have taken part in this kind of fantasy comp.

It is so much more fun and enjoyable than the regular salary cap version.

I feel like the team is really my own. And it has once again changed the way that I was and enjoy football.

I love having Robbie Farah and Andrew Fifita and knowing that they are killing it for my team and no one else.

Then I also have the fun of watching Cameron Smith fumble the ball or make a mistake in a match. I know he’s going to be losing some points for that mistake and its great to know that only one person in my league is going to suffer for that one, rather than knowing that everyone in the comp is going to get the same point loss as they all have Smith as captain.

With the season coming to a close it makes me sad to know that I’ll have to wait enough six months before I can get back into picking me team and watching the waiver wire and trying to make shifty trades between my mates.

Yet I’m also excited to watch us come together next year for the draft day and make a new set of teams.

I’m always thinking of new ways to pick the draft order, as well as trying to find new punishments for those that get the spoon.

If anyone else out there is as crazy about their fantasy football I would really love to hear the insane ways you pick your drafts as well as any other rules you have for your league.

While I still enjoy the salary cap game, I have been completely sold on the draft version and will never be looking back.
