The Big Bash League continues tonight when the Sydney Thunder host their crosstown rivals the Sydney Sixers at ANZ Stadium for match 31 of the 2013/14 season. Join me at 7.15pm AEDT for the full teams, the toss, live scores and updates.
The Thunder and Sixers have already played once this season, with the Sydney Sixers winning by six wickets with 10 balls to spare.
The Thunder will be without Eoin Morgan, who is on international duty, and potentially Chris Woakes while the Sydney Sixers will be missing Steven Smith and Ravi Bopara from their squad.
The Thunder have a young and inexperienced lineup, while the Sixers also have a few good young players.
Mike Hussey has been the only real shining light for the Thunder this year, whereas the Sixers have had quite a few shining lights.
Key Players
Sydney Thunder
Batting
Usman Khawaja, Mike Hussey
Bowling
Dirk Nannes, Carl Sandri
Usman Khawaja and Mike Hussey have probably been the Thunder’s two best batsman this season, with Hussey performing in nearly every game.
Khawaja has played quite well, but still has a lot of room for improvement. If Hussey and Khawaja can bat well, the Thunder should make a decent total.
Dirk Nannes has performed very well for Thunder this season, taking many vital wickets. He is a very consistent performer and extremely reliable.
Carl Sandri is more of a wild card, and has been quite effective with his spinners so far this season.
Sydney Sixers
Batting
Michael Lumb, Nic Maddinson
Bowling
Brett Lee, Josh Hazlewood
Michael Lumb and Nic Maddinson have formed a great opening pair for the Sixers this year, as Lumb has made two fifties and Maddinson has made one fifty which was against the Thunder in their previous encounter.
If both can fire, the Sixers should be all set to make a good score.
Brett Lee and Josh Hazlewood have taken a combined 22 wickets this season, which shows just how important they are to the Sixers line-up.
If these two can be at their ferocious best, then the Thunder will find it very difficult to hit around.
ANZ Stadium seems to have a low scoring pitch, with most scores around the 150-160. If the team that bats first can make 160-plus it will be difficult to chase, no doubt.
Ladder Position
The Thunder sit at the bottom of the ladder, and will stay there no matter what the result is in this match, while the Sixers can move to second to win a home final.
