Young West Australians Mitchell Marsh and Sam Whiteman will be aiming to dig Australia A out of a big hole on day three of their tour match against India A in Brisbane on Tuesday.

The home side will resume at 6-126 in reply to India A’s 9(dec)-475 after Naman Ojha blasted 219 not out from 250 balls at Allan Border Field on Monday.

The tourists’ batsmen wasted no time in racking up quick runs, starting the day on 6-304 and adding 171 runs in just over a session before declaring.

Cameron Boyce (4-146) was the pick of the bowlers for Australia A, who lost wickets at regular intervals in response to be in big trouble at stumps.

Alex Doolan (12), Peter Forrest (16), Phil Hughes (34), captain James Faulkner (one), Moises Henriques (four) and Chris Lynn (20) couldn’t kick on as Jasprit Bumrah (3-42) did most of the damage with the ball.

Australia A’s hopes of building a competitive total in the four-day match will rest heavily on the shoulders of Marsh (18no) and wicketkeeper Whiteman (13no).
