The Melbourne Demons host the Geelong Cats at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores from 1:45pm (AEST).

The Demons enter this match off the back of a tough loss against Fremantle in Darwin last week. Coming up against another top four contender this round, Melbourne will be desperate to save some face and consolidate the ground they have gained in 2014 with a strong showing against Geelong.

If history is anything to go by however, the Demons have little hope of a fifth victory for the season in this match. Geelong have dominated Melbourne in recent years, winning every match the sides have played since 2006.

Their last five meetings dating back to 2009 have all been at Simonds Stadium. Geelong have averaged 137 points per game throughout this stretch, while the Demons have averaged just 58.

Melbourne will at the very least be thankful that they at last get to face the Cats on their home turf, instead of making the dreaded trip down to Geelong.

Steve Johnson has racked up a combined 73 touches in his last two outings against Geelong; he led the Cats in their win against the Bulldogs last round with 25 touches and 14 tackles and should be a force again today unless the Demons can find an answer for him.

With 2nd to 5th all sitting equal on 44 competition points, the Cats (currently occupying 5th spot) will look at today as a good opportunity to secure a big win and start to bridge the gap of 30+ percentage points that currently separates them from the top four.
