Team USA has had their preparation for the FIBA World Cup turned upside down in what appears to be a very serious lower-leg injury to Indiana Pacers star Paul George.

The Team USA showcase game was set to be a final chance for guys to push for a spot on the final 12-man heading to Spain in a few weeks.

At the start of the final quarter, George attempted to stop a James Harden lay-up and his leg came down awkwardly on the base of the basket.

The immediate reaction from baseline fans and players suggested it was very serious. George was treated for 15 minutes before being taken away on a stretcher.

USA coach Mike Krzyzewski announced to the players and crowd that the scrimmage had been cancelled out of respect to George and his family.

Team USA have announced they will not be making any decisions on the final roster until further notice.

The USA basketball team has always been a subject of debate about what sort of roster should they be assembling for World Championship events. This will no doubt raise the question from NBA teams about how beneficial it is to be having these star players skip the off-season to represent the USA on a national stage.

It will be interesting to see where these players are at mentally after this, considering they all still have one eye on the next NBA season.
