The ladder still sits as uncertain as ever with only two rounds to go, and many games over this weekend could shape many teams’ 2014 seasons.

Here is my weekly preview of the big matches with accompanied tips.

Adelaide’s biggest chance of a finals berth
For the first half of this year Adelaide looked set to continue the disappointment of their 2013 season, where they failed miserably and disappointed everyone after coming off a five-point preliminary final loss the year before.

This year, they have turned their form around and face a team that have done the exact same as them. The Kangaroos have now certainly made another finals series after constantly being just outside the eight. They sit in sixth spot and are looking to finish off the home-and-away season strongly against the Crows down at Hobart.

The inconsistency of North Melbourne has damaged them all year, and Adelaide have a lot more at stake here, with a win making a finals appearance certain. I think that the Roos will lose here, and have a few troubles the week after as their inconsistency could ruin their season. Adelaide will book a first week finals showdown against Port Adelaide.

Tip: Crows by 27.

The game of the home-and-away season
For six years, the rivalry between Geelong and Hawthorn has been massive. Geelong were dominating Hawthorn ever since that 2008 grand final before last year, where Hawthorn produced a stunning last quarter to beat the Cats and book a grand final spot, where they eventually won the flag.

Everyone then expected the curse to be broken, with Hawthorn finally overcoming the gallant Cats. But earlier this year Geelong proved that they still have the wood over the Hawks, winning a spectacular Easter Monday clash with a scintillating last quarter. The odds are swinging towards Hawthorn yet again this year, but I predict that Geelong will book second spot with a brilliant victory.
