Port Adelaide speedster Matt White has taken out the AFL’s goal of the year award, while teammate Chad Wingard’s round-12 screamer is the mark of the year.

White and Wingard were each presented with $10,000 on Monday night at the Brownlow Medal count.

West Coast’s Beau Waters was presented with the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award at the count for his work as an ambassador for the Cancer Council WA.

Waters will receive $20,000 from the AFL to be donated to the charity or community program(s) of his choice.

White’s incredible running effort against Richmond in round 17 was judged goal of the year ahead of nominations from Adelaide’s Eddie Betts and Western Bulldog Marcus Bontempelli.

“It was like in Auskick where you keep running, that’s what I was thinking,” White said.

Wingard downplayed his spectacular mark against St Kilda, calling it “a bit of luck”.
