The Australian Kangaroos squad for the Four Nations has been announced on Tuesday afternoon, with 10 players selected to make their Test debuts in the tournament, which beings on October 25.

Injury and withdrawals have decimated the options available to Tim Sheens, with key players like Johnathan Thurston, Paul Gallen and stalwart Luke Lewis all unavailable for selection.

The bolter of the squad is Newcastle Knights utility back Sione Mata’utia, who could become the youngest ever player to play for Australia.

The side also include 14 NSW Blues from the state’s first successful Origin campaign in some eight years.

Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens backed his debutants that are stepping up from Origin: “If you can play Origin footy, you can play Test footy.”

With the likes of Thurston, Billy Slater and Gallen all missing, Tim Sheens has had to turn to a number of the victorious Blues squad.

Jarryd Hayne is likely to deputise for Slater in the fullback position, with Greg Inglis remaining in the centres for the tournament.

Souths centre Dylan Walker has also been selected, reward for a strong finals series with the Rabbitohs, alongside teammates and bolter Alex Johnston.
