Gerard Beale will take the place of Dallin Watene-Zelezniak in New Zealand’s side for Saturday’s Four Nations clash with Australia, after the Penrith youngster broke his ankle at training.

Watene-Zelezniak will miss the four-week tournament.

St George-Illawarra utility Beale will move onto the Kiwis’ right wing.

Brisbane Broncos discard Josh Hoffman has been brought into the squad as cover for the 18-year-old.

“He had a bit of a mishap on the beach on Monday where he felt he rolled his ankle,” coach Stephen Kearney told reporters on Wednesday of Watene-Zelezniak’s condition.

“We got that scanned and he has a small fracture there.

“Obviously, he’s feeling fairly disappointed.

“He has bounced back from it fairly well but you can tell he’s disappointed not to be playing this weekend.”

Hoffman is reportedly not part of new coach Wayne Bennett’s plans at the Broncos.

England play Samoa in the other game in Saturday’s double header.
