Barnsley attacking midfielder Ryan Williams is not giving up on his dream of making the Socceroos squad for the Asian Cup.

Williams, 21, is currently on loan at League One outfit Barnsley from English Championship side Fulham.

The younger brother of Socceroo and Middlesbrough defender Rhys, Ryan Williams has been plying his trade in the UK since 2010.

The ECU Joondalup junior joined Portsmouth as a teenager and made a handful of first-team appearances for the club. He signed with Fulham in 2012 and has since gone out on loan to Gillingham and Oxford United.

Last season with League Two’s Oxford, Williams made 42 appearances, claiming a haul of eight goals and five assists.

He returned to Fulham before the start of this season and played three games under Felix Magath. After Magath was sacked the winger has gone on loan to Barnsley for a month to secure regular game-time.

Able to play on the flanks, in the hole and in central midfield, he racked up 12 appearances for the Young Socceroos from 2012 to 2012.

I chatted with the Perth product about his Socceroo ambitions, his career in the UK and his time at both Fulham and Barnsley.
