OneSails Racing wins Hobart leadup series

OneSails Racing has underlined her status as one of the fancied boats for Sydney to Hobart handicap honours, by taking overall victory in the Cruising Yacht Club Of Australia Trophy-Passage series.

The two-race series conducted over the weekend represents the last major hitout prior to the Boxing Day start of the Sydney to Hobart.

The Farr 55 boat, which was formerly known as Living Doll, won Sunday’s race in Sydney on corrected time from the TP52 yacht Shogun, in a reversal of the two boats’ positions in Saturday’s first race.

With both boats finishing equal on points, OneSails Racing was declared the winner, having taken out the second of the two races.

It was an encouraging weekend for the boat’s new owner, Ray Roberts, who only purchased it four months ago and has had little competitive racing in it in that time.

“This was an important win for us ahead of the Sydney Hobart,” Roberts said.

“We are still testing sails and learning to use them.”

The 60-foot Ichi Ban, which took line honours in Sunday’s race, finished third overall in the series.
