The A-League moves into a Christmas schedule, starting with a four-pronged attack of matches this weekend.

There won’t be two Sunday games, with the Wanderers vs Roar fixture scheduled for the 25th March. It’s still a Round 11 match though!

On the tipping front, a Christmas-related Roar function meant that Friday wasn’t the time to be putting up A-League tips last week, but we’re back with a vengeance this week.

Friday 19 December

Newcastle Jets vs Adelaide United @ Hunter Stadium – 7:40PM

Janek Speight says: Adelaide. Adelaide’s third game in a week might see them a bit jaded, even after the high of an FFA Cup win, but they’ll still have too much class for the Jets.

Tony Tannous says: Any FFA Cup hang-over for the Reds? Might be a slight one, but reckon they’re still good enough to get something. I’ll go all 3, 2-1.

Domenic Trimboli says: It’s the FFA Cup Champions against the win-less Jets. Certainly one sided on paper, but I’ll back Newcastle to snag a point.

Mitch Grima says: Adelaide – Tuesday’s FFA Cup win provided a reassurance that Adelaide are committed to win in style. The are a class above Jets and should get it done here.

Saturday 20 December

Melbourne Victory vs Melbourne City @ AAMI Park – 7:30PM

Janek Speight says: Victory. City are still struggling with injuries to top players and I can’t see a sky blue win here.

Tony Tannous says: I love a derby. Who doesn’t? City been up and down, who knows how they go here. Looking fwd to seeing if Koren can give them something, as Engelaar did late last season. Victory more bankable, 1-0.

Domenic Trimboli says: Victory to be too strong in the Derby. Archie to score consecutive hat tricks.

Mitch Grima says: Draw – Going for a high scoring draw with plenty of drama.

Perth Glory v Central Coast @ NIB Stadium – 9:30PM

Janek Speight says: Perth. The Glory will be feeling a little down after their FFA Cup loss, but the Mariners were lucky to grab a draw in Wellington and won’t cause too many dramas in WA.

Tony Tannous says: The Mariners are keen on a post FFA Cup ambush & if they learnt anything from Adelaide the fullbacks Roux and Neill will drive on. They can get a draw here, 1-1

Domenic Trimboli says: Perth looked a little flat on Tuesday night, but I expect them to maintain their lead at the top with a win at home.

Mitch Grima says: Perth – Glory seemed a step behind for much of the match on Tuesday and could take it all out on Central Coast.

Sunday 21 December

Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix @ Allianz Stadium – 5:00PM

Janek Speight says: Draw. Sydney’s injury woes are starting to take their hold, with just one win in the last six matches. Think Wellington can steal a draw here.

Tony Tannous says: This should be a very good game, and I fancy the ‘Nix to ask some real questions of Sydney in transition. In fact, I fancy them to get something here, think they can draw, 1-1

Domenic Trimboli says: Sydney showed great fight last week in Melbourne and will be spewing that they couldn’t close out the win. But I’m backing them to get the three points here.

Mitch Grima says: Wellington – Phoenix have been gleefully putting along this season and they’re playing some of the bet football we’ve seen from them. They need more big away wins to start challenging for a higher finish and this would be a good way to prove Ernie Merrick’s men mean business.
