Perception in football is a funny thing – Zlatan Ibrahimovic is arrogant, Cristiano Ronaldo far from modest, Jose Mourinho is a hypocrite and James Milner is boring.
They’re not always correct but often they remain hard to shift. But as it is the festive season, and taking the piss out of yourself once in a while should be the staple for every normal adult, here’s a bit of fun.
The boring nature of England and Manchester City midfielder James Milner has been the source of scorn for some time. It has its own parody Twitter account – @BoringMilner – which has 363,000 followers.
It serves up gems like these:
Pellegrini said I need you play up front, James. I said Me? He said Yes. I said Play up front? He said Yes. I said OK. He said Thanks, James

Great win at Southampton today. Now to get back home and test all my smoke alarms before bed.

With big egos, personalities, and tons of loud and brash characters across the English Premier League, the 28-year-old hardly stands out. But his ability to be entertaining in the media or socially is not connected to how well he strikes a ball.
However, Milner certainly has a sense of humour and doesn’t take himself too seriously, unlike a lot of footballers.
He’s elaborated on his ‘boring’ tag just before the 2014 World Cup. Now he’s taken it to new levels.
Manchester City are celebrating Christmas with a raft of videos and Milner has featured in one, two days out from the big day. Visited by the club’s kit man, Les Chapman, the midfielder opens up a few presents and plays up to the perception that he’s as dull as dishwater.
Watch, enjoy and Merry Christmas.
