Falcon: Accidentally getting hit in the head with the ball during a game of football (all codes).

When footballers lace up their boots and step onto the pitch, they know that they may be required to put their body on the line in order to help their team achieve victory. This means that there may be times where a ball is kicked into your face.

During the Socceroos dominant 4-0 win over Oman last night, Mark Milligan was a part of an Australian wall trying to block an Omani free kick. They succeeded to block a dangerous ball into the area, at the expense of Mark Milligan’s face. Milligan needed a minute or so to recover after the falcon before resuming play, but his falcon may have helped his side keep a clean sheet.

Sometimes getting a ball kicked in your face is an inconvenience to say the least, however there are times where copping a falcon can actually work in your favour. Don’t believe me? Just ask Adam Lallana. Liverpool’s attacking midfielder copped a falcon whilst closing down Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, and was well rewarded for his efforts.

There are also times where it doesn’t work in your favour. Check out this unfortunate incident, where Bury’s Chris Brass ended falconing himself in a failed attempt to clear the ball over his head. His self-falcon was not only amusing, but ended up resulting in an incredible own goal for his side.

You don’t even have to be a part of the game to have a ball kicked at your head. Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini copped one on the noggin a few days back in his sides win against Genoa just standing on the sidelines.

No one is safe from the falcon, and sometimes there doesn’t even have to be a match being played to be at risk, this reporter got hit during a pre-match report.

And then of course, there are the home-made classics, like this one and this one.

Still haven’t had enough? For those of you looking for some guilty pleasure, here is a hilarious compilation video some determined YouTuber made which may satisfy all your falcon needs.
