India and England faced off against each other on Tuesday after both losing their first match against Australia.

Both sides were looking to get their first win and kick start their tournament. Here are six things to come out of the match.

1. Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution
Dhawan has flopped for the second match in a row, raising doubts about his selection in the team as an opener. The failure of Dhawan just puts pressure on the other batsmen who must score quick runs to make use of the powerplay restrictions.

2. James Anderson’s bowling

James Anderson played his first match of the series and his bowling was absolutely brilliant. He bowled 51 deliveries of which 42 were dot balls while picking up four wickets and giving away just 18 runs.

He made sure the pressure was on the Indian batsman, never bowling bad balls and making the Indian batsmen work hard

3. Steven Finn
Last year, Finn was sent back for Australia and it looked like it was the end of his career. However, Finn made a phenomenal comeback to the national side, picking up five wickets with bowling in the right areas and making India play some rash shots.

4. India’s poor shot selection
Four of India’s first five wickets were due to poor shot selection. The batsmen played some rash shots and just threw away their wickets. The side failed by not giving themselves a chance to play themselves in or rotating the strike.

5.Virat Kohli batting at 4
Kohli has been India’s one down batsman for the past few years and he has proved that he is the best in that position. Therefore, it is strange to see him bat at four.

This may be an experiment but it is not working for India and they should stop this soon.

6. Ian Bell’s runs
Bell scored 88 runs and never once played a rash shot. Bell scored runs all around the park and always looked under control while playing. Opening the batting suits Bell and his form during the World Cup will be important to England.
