Match Result

PSG 1-1 Chelsea

The stage is set for another dramatic second leg at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea taking a valuable 1-1 draw back to London. PSG though came back strongly in the second half and probably should have won the match.

Cavani caused plenty of trouble and scored the equaliser as well. Ibrahimovic had his moments upfront but not quite firing yet again. PSG certainly a chance of causing trouble away from home but Chelsea of course start favourites given their great record at home.

Match Preview

Two European superpowers go head-to-head as Paris St Germain hosts Chelsea in the first leg of what should be a cracking round of 16 Champions League tie. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6:30am (AEDT).

Chelsea have fond memories of the last time they played PSG in a Champions League match. The Premier League giants managed to overturn a 3-1 first leg deficit last season, defeating the French giants 2-nil at Stamford Bridge.

That result ensured Chelsea’s progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League on goal difference with PSG left to rue a great opportunity gone begging.

Now the stage is set for yet another tantalising match-up between two sides capable of winning the Champions League come May.

After conceding three goals in last season’s first leg, Chelsea may come out with a defensive mindset against a PSG side that needs to take a positive result to Stamford Bridge.

PSG certainly have the firepower upfront to do damage. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Javier Pastore, Matuidi, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani are all capable of blowing this game wide open if Chelsea lose concentration at the back.

The loss of Lucas Moura to injury is a blow for PSG. The Brazilian attacker is a wonderful talent and often provides much needed x-factor when the rest of PSG’s attack is faltering. His absence tonight gives Chelsea’s defenders one less thing to worry about.

At the back, former Chelsea defender David Luiz faces former teammate Eden Hazard in what should be a cracking match-up. The Brazilian has been in solid form for PSG and his partner in crime Thiago Silva will have their hands full keeping tabs on the superstar Belgian.

All in all, tonight’s contest promises to be a thoroughly entertaining affair. PSG at home are very difficult to beat and one senses that this could be their time to make a big statement in the Champions League starting with a win tonight.

PSG to win 2-1.
