The biff was back as the NRL returned for 2015 and the New Zealand Breakers secured an unprecedented fourth NBL title in just five seasons. These are some of the must-see moments from the weekend in sport.
Todd Carney gets clobbered in Super League
It was just last week that we were watching Todd Carney make his impressive return to rugby league for Super League side the Catalan Dragons.
Now the former NRL star is set for a stint on the sidelines after having his ribs broken in a late crunching tackle from Lama Tasi.
Carney’s coach, Laurent Frayssinous, was justifiably furious by the incident, stating: “I expect Tasi to be charged but I also thought he should have been shown a card.”
Sharks and Raiders fire up in opening round
There were some fiery match ups in opening round of the NRL, none more so than the clash between the Sharks and Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
Double-try scorer Jack Wighton found himself in the sin bin for a punch thrown on Sosaia Feki, who also found himself in the bin for retaliating.
The Breakers make it four in five years thanks to epic buzzer-beater
The New Zealand Breakers claimed their fourth NBL title in five years in stunning fashion against the Cairns Taipans in Game 2 of the series.
After the Taipans equalised with just 1.3 seconds left on the clock, the game look destined for overtime.
Enter Ekene Ibekwe.
The Breaker import sinking a clutch long-range jumped on the buzzer to send the title back to New Zealand.
Conversion charge down actually works for the Force against the Brumbies
Charging down a conversion is something often attempted, but not often achieved.
You can appreciate the surprise we got then when Western Force speedster, Marcel Brache, managed to get a hand on a Christian Lealiifano shot on goal.
