A Karem Bulut double has helped the Wanderers record a 4-1 victory over reigning premiers the Brisbane Roar, in front of a small Wednesday night crowd.

The extremely talented youngster made it look easy with two well-taken goals as the Wanderers all but ended the Roar’s chances of defending their title.

Although Brisbane can still, quite easily, make the finals, a loss to the Wanderers was not what was needed at this end of the season.

Even if they do squeak into sixth place, they’ll be nothing more than fodder for any of the top five sides.

Both sides had players missing due to international commitments, and were suffering fatigue after both sides have had a fixture congestion of late.

Funnily enough, both sides remain in the race for Asian Champions League qualification, but both seem out of contention for anything more than a Week 1 exit from the finals. It’s almost impossible to think that last season these two sides contested one of the most intense grand finals in the competitions history.

It will be the Wanderers who leave Brisbane happy, following the dominant win.

Nikita Rukavytsya send the Wanderers on their way midway through the first half, as the away side started with far more energy. It looked as though the Asian Champions would run away with it, but Brisbane struck back through an unlucky own goal from a set piece.

Bulut scored the first of his goals after a brilliant counter-attack saw Romeo Castalan find him unmarked with an open goal.

Castalan himself registered his first A-League goal for the Wanderers in the second half, blasting a powerful shot through the hands of the keeper.

Bulut iced the game late, finishing a one-on-one opportunity with relative ease, capping off a brilliant performance for both player and club.

Wanderers fans will be asking where this was earlier in the season, however they can now look forward to continuing their Asian Champions league defence with a fit, in-form and firing striker in Bulut.

As for the Roar, they face a must-win game against Melbourne City if they are to be any chance of defending a title that is slipping through their fingers.
