Sportswriters Brett McKay and Ryan O’Connell are stunned at a lack of scandal in Episode 70 of the Cheap Seats podcast.

#AskTheCheapSeats saw a couple of cracking questions on the impact of Ron Barassi and Kevin Sheedy on AFL in Sydney, and Australian rugby’s constant ability to shoot itself in the foot.

Onto the footy, and it was a weekend that produced nothing but actual footy discussion for a change. No Australian teams won Super Rugby, and the current table does not make for comfortable reading. Both the Waratahs and Brumbies have work to do.

In the NRL, it was a round of entertaining games, underrated teams continuing their march, high tackles, and not a whole lot of talk about referees for a change.

In the AFL, we ponder the end of the Geelong era, and the rise of some mid-table teams.

Plus we find time to talk Jordan Speith’s US Masters golf win, Kevin Pietersen’s comeback to county cricket, and an update on the Cheap Seats Tipping League (which you can still join here).
