Sportswriters Brett McKay and Ryan O’Connell have donned the wet-weather gear in a wet and windy Episode 71 of the Cheap Seats podcast.

Another #AskTheCheapSeats included a great follow-up on last week’s Kevin Sheedy/Ron Barassi question, while also tackling curly questions around Jarryd Hayne, the NBA playoffs, ARU contracts, NSW State of Origin halves, the podcast’s A-League coverage and pelicans.

Yes, pelicans.

To the rugby, and it was a much better weekend for the Australian sides – well, most of them – with the Waratahs, Rebels, and Reds all posting wins to varying degrees of dominance. And the Hurricanes’ unbeaten run has come to an end, which probably won’t be a bad thing. The current worrying state of the Brumbies is also discussed, as is the horrible news of Aaron Cruden’s knee injury.

It was proper ark-building weather for the Cronulla vs Souths game, creating some of the more remarkable scenes in recent years.

The whole June 30 thing just refuses to go away; there needs to be an investigation. And another edition of ‘Premiership favourite of the week’ throws up some surprising candidates.

In AFL, the biggest non-story since the last non-story is covered off, Hawthorn had a very ‘vanilla’ win.

Plus there’s a full wrap up of the Cheap Seats Tipping League, which you can still join.
