The Seven Network has secured the rights to the exhibition match between Chelsea and Sydney FC in June this year, following on from its broadcast of All-Stars matches as well as previous visits from European clubs.

The match will be shown on Seven’s digital channel 7Mate live, giving free-to-air only households access to a further taste of A-League clubs against some of the best players in the world. Foxtel will not broadcast the match.

It’s unclear at this stage how many, if any, of Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard, John Terry, Oscar and Diego Costa will be on show against the Sky Blues.

The event will take place on June 2.

FFA CEO David Gallop has suggested the deal is “another boost for football in Australia.”

“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football and they will take on a Sydney FC team that is right in the hunt to be crowned 2015 [A-League] champions. It is a great opportunity to showcase the Hyundai A-League on national free-to-air television.

“The Seven Network has shown its appetite for football with broadcasts of the Melbourne Victory v Liverpool clash and the last two All-Stars matches against Manchester United and Juventus and this is a further step towards the mainstream for Australian football.”
