As the Queensland Reds sat out Round 12 of Super Rugby with a bye, several of their key players made the trip down to Canberra to join a Wallabies session with Waratahs and Brumbies players.

Wallabies coach, Michael Cheika, invited Quade Cooper, Will Genia and James Slipper to attend the session organised in preparation for upcoming Rugby Championship and World Cup.

Cheika, along with assistant coaches Stephen Larkham and Nathan Grey, took the players through unit work and also focussed on mental preparation.

With just six rounds left in the Super Rugby season, Cheika is planning to take every opportunity to rally his Wallabies, with meetings scheduled for Western Force players on the Sunday after their match against the Waratahs in Perth, and in Brisbane following the Rebels and Reds Round 14 clash.

Commenting on the attendance of the Reds players and the success of the session, Cheika stated:

“It was excellent from them, it was their week off and they volunteered to come down just for the afternoon.

“I’ve been impressed with the honesty we’ve been getting from guys, they are all prepared to put themselves out there, sometimes in difficult situations or answering difficult questions, and it’s not like they have to.

“There are a lot of good things happening, we still are yet to play any footy but so far the preparations have been fantastic.”
