FIGHT PREVIEW:

Top contenders #4 Stipe Miocic and #5 Mark ‘Super Samoan’ Hunt will lock horns in a massive heavyweight showdown that has huge title implications. Join us on The Roar from 1pm AEST for live round-by-round updates and commentary.

Coming off a decision loss in an incredible five-round heavyweight bout against former UFC champion Junior Dos Santos (17-3), Miocic will be desperate to impress in Adelaide and plead his case for the next shot at heavyweight gold.

Having finished nine of his 12 wins by knockout, and coming off three dominant wins against Roy Nelson (21-11), Gabriel Gonzaga (16-10) and Fabio Maldonado (22-7)- who he finished in 30 seconds- Miocic has proven time and time again that he belongs at the top of the heavyweight division, and he may be just one win away from a title shot.

Coming off a disappointing loss against Fabricio Werdum (19-5-1) in his interim-title fight in Mexico last year, Hunt will be eager to put a stamp on Miocic and make another claim at the belt.

Known for his devastating knockout power, and his signature ‘walk-away’ when the finishing blow lands, Hunt will be confident that he can land the big right and put Miocic to sleep.

“This is what I was born to do. I’m a fighter. I’ll put this right hand on his lips and he’s out.”

A win for the Sydney-based fighter could put him in prime position for a shot at gold at the UFC’s highly anticipated Melbourne event in November, and whilst he could potentially face either current champion Cain Velasquez (13-1), Hunt has revenge on Werdum on his mind.

I’ve never lost a rematch, ever. Even in kickboxing, I’ve always won the rematch, and I’m not gonna lose another one to him, that’s for sure”.

Prediction
Miocic will likely outwork Hunt, but whichever way it goes, it’s the fans that are the true winners of this main event.

My pick: Stipe Miocic via unanimous decision.

Will it be Stipe Miocic that stakes his claim for a shot at UFC gold, or can Mark Hunt impress in front of a home crowd in Adelaide. Join us on The Roar from 1pm for live round-by-round updates and commentary.
