The resurgence was so stunning that the story would surely be told for generations.

Just as everyone inside the sold out Staples Center in Los Angeles, California was about to celebrate over what would be a sure Los Angeles Clippers win, what happened next was one of the most appalling comebacks in the NBA Playoffs history.

The Houston Rockets overcome a 19-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to stun the LA Clippers. The win would mean a do-or-die Game 7 in Houston, Texas Sunday night (Monday morning AEST).

“We kept saying, ‘We’re not going to quit,'” Rockets centre Dwight Howard was quoted by the Associated Press.

“We kept believing. We never gave up on each other.”

Following Thursday night’s win, the Rockets duplicated their feat from 1995 when they fell behind 3-1 to the Phoenix Suns but went on to win the three remaining games to advance to the Conference finals.

Now, the Rockets hope to continue the momentum in the final game of the series against one of NBA’s hottest teams. They will try to become just the ninth NBA team to win a playoff series after trailing three games to one.

With a home court advantage, they aim to complete the comeback to advance to the Western Conference finals against the Golden State Warriors.

The Clippers, however, are rearing for vengeance. They are expected to give it all Sunday night before a hostile crowd at the Toyota Center in Houston.

A win will mean history for the Clippers, who have never played in a conference finals since joining the NBA in 1970. The farthest they have gone so far was clinching division titles in 2013 and 2014.

The pressure, however, will be on the LA side, the new Hollywood favourites replacing the struggling Los Angeles Lakers. Coming from a seventh-game victory over the champion San Antonio Spurs, the grueling playoffs seemed to have taken toll on them.

In the last game, they clearly run out of gas and lost the momentum, which gave the Rockets the opportunity to stage a long rally and steal a come-from-behind victory.

Whatever the outcome, this series will surely be a memorable one.
