Curious about the weather for Game 1 of the 2015 State of Origin series? You’ve come to the right place.

The good news is that the forecast for Wednesday 27 May is mostly sunny and a top of 21. That should mean that by the time it cools down for kickoff time, around 8:17pm AEST, it should be perfect conditions for rugby league at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.

There will be some light winds for the game, which shouldn’t play too big a role inside the stadium. The minimum temperature is predicted to be 11 degrees, which should make things very comfortable for the players

There is no suggestion of rains that have been hammering Sydney for the past couple of months coming back for this match, so it should be unspoiled for fans at the ground and at home.

As always, with the game kicking off a little later than most regular season rugby league fixtures, there will be dew on the ground and therefore on the ball.

This means that there will be less chance to throw the ball around than, say, a Sunday afternoon fixture. Realistically, however, every NRL player is used to conditions like these, and no one will have any excuses if they make a handling error.

So who does the good weather for Origin 1 favour?

Obviously that is a very loaded question, with plenty of other factors determining how the game is played.

Let’s say the referees facilitate a very open game with a ‘long’ ten metres, then you’d have to say that it should favour Queensland’s style of play.

They don’t necessarily have the size of NSW, especially on the wings, but Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater and Johnathan Thurston love an open game where they can utilise their, speed, skill and silky passing.

NSW revelled in the grind of the first two games of last year’s series, and will likely want to make this a battle of the forwards. While the good weather doesn’t necessarily help that strategy, it doesn’t hinder it either.

The lesson? There’s no excuse for either team, least of all the weather.
