Hawthorn to repeat Magpie slaughter

‘May the Magpies prosper’ is what they say at Collingwood
It’s something that they wish for ‘cause they’re really not that good
At Hawthorn the club motto is ‘By our deeds we shall be known’
And over time mighty deeds are exactly what they’ve shown.

Last year in the twenty-third round Hawthorn started very slow
But then after the first quarter the goals began to flow
By the end Nathan Buckley had nothing left to spin
‘Cause the Hawks were triumphant with a sixty-five point win.

There were many special moments; almost too many to recall
But for me it had to be whenever Hartung had the ball
Without even looking at the target his first goal was a beaut
He ran inside fifty and just threw the ball onto his boot.

Roughie kicked four goals; Gunners went one more with five
Every player contributed to keep the dream alive
Gibbo had thirty-six possessions, which was a personal best
And no matter what came at them Hawthorn stood up to the test.

In the final quarter the Hawks really piled on the goals
As time and again the ball sailed straight on through the poles
The floodgates were open and there was no stopping Hawthorn’s run
And for Collingwood their season was irrevocably ‘done’.

“Like lambs to the slaughter” was what Bucks said in the end
He had no excuses to offer and he couldn’t try to pretend
As Friday approaches and the match is ready to be played
Don’t forget last time Collingwood and be very, very afraid
