This year’s Bledisloe Cup match in Sydney will be supported by a four-day festival of sport and entertainment leading up to the Wallabies and the All-Blacks first test at ANZ Stadium on August 8.

The Wallabies haven’t won a Bledisloe match in Sydney since 2008, but will be keen to give it a red hot go in the first one of the year.

Before that, the ARU are hoping to stoke fans interest with a number of events in the lead up to the Cup taking place in various locations across the city.

The Bledisloe Cup Festival Race Day will be held on the same day in the lead-up to the night time match. The event will see jockeys race for the ‘Wallabies Cup’, to be decked out in the colours of both teams.

Other events in the festival include an interactive Qantas Wallabies fan zone at Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall, a Women in Business & Sport Rugby lunch, a Bledisloe Bay fan day at Darling Harbour, a Classic Wallabies golf day at Manly Golf Club and the Bledisloe Cup Race Day at Royal Randwick.

If you’re attending the match, you get free entry into the races. Not bad.

Wallabies flanker Michael Hooper said the Bledisloe Cup Festival enables fans to enjoy the Australia-New Zealand rivalry.

“The Festival gives fans a great opportunity to get to Sydney early in the week and enjoy the activities in and around the city leading up to the game. It’s a great week to celebrate our rivalry with the All Blacks and I know the players love getting out and enjoying that support before and at the game,” said Hooper.

Stuart Ayres, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport, was also enthusiastic:

“This year’s Festival features a range of events in the week leading up to the big game at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, August 8. The NSW Government is proud to have secured the 2015 Bledisloe Cup Festival for Sydney through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, with the event expected to attract visitors from all over Australia and the world.”

What do you think Roarers? Will you be attending any of the events in the lead-up?
