Coming off an upsetting Ashes loss to England, how will we perform against New Zealand in the upcoming Test series?

What was the one thing that let us down in the Ashes? Was it the consistency of our bowling, or was it our batting?

Whatever it was, it needs to be fixed quickly because the summer is just around the bend. Some of our players must step up a level.

Perhaps it will be Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc or even our spin bowler Nathan Lyon, maybe even the young Josh Hazlewood. Or it may be one of our batsmen, such as David Warner, Steve Smith, or maybe even Joe Burns.

The bowling will have to be fast and on stump as New Zealand is a smart team and will not play silly shots. We will have to bowl very smart and make them attempt to play everything. Our batting side will have to make runs and not play the wide ones.

The Australian side is packed with talent, starting with the captain Steve Smith, who is a batsmen that makes quick runs and plays it safe. While at the other end Mitchell Johnson is an aggressive bowler with dangerous bouncers who can also bat and make a few runs.

The New Zealand team is also overflowing with talent. If we have any chance of winning we will have to take early wickets and bat safely. They have a fast and angry bowling side and their batting line-up can make runs fast and smartly.

Brendon McCullum is a very smart man, who can bat smart and make heaps of runs. If we don’t get him out early he will go on to make century after century. Not only that, he is also New Zealand’s captain.

The Aussies will have to be very smart in the outfield, not dropping catches or misfielding anything, and throwing accurately at the stumps. The slips will have to be on their toes if they are going to help get some wickets.

That brings us to the wicketkeeper Peter Nevill, who will have to stop all the balls from going past. That’s what let us down against England.

These are some of the things Australia need to do if they have a chance of beating New Zealand here in Australia.
