MATCH RESULT

FULL TIME: Adelaide United 0 – 0 Newcastle Jets

After an uneventful first half, Adelaide came out firing in the second.

However, Mark Birighitti was phenomenal for the Jets between the sticks, denying Craig Goodwin, Bruce Djite and Jimmy Jeggo on multiple occasions.

REPORT: ADELAIDE DRAW WITH NEWCASTLE

Both sides suffered losses due to injury, for Adelaide, Osama Malik came off with hamstring problems, and nigel Boogaard was forced off with a leg problem late in the game for Newcastle.

Neither side able to get the three points, but the resilient Newcastle Jets will be happy with the point, as they stay in fifth position.

For Adelaide, they still search for that elusive first win of the season.

MATCH PREVIEW

Adelaide United will be desperate to their first win of the 2015-16 A-League season when they host the Newcastle Jets. Join The Roar from 4:30pm AEDT for live scores and commentary.

Yet to win a single game thus far this season, Adelaide United sit firmly on last position on the A-League table with a mere two points.

Craig Goodwin provided some early hope for Adelaide in their last fixture against the Wellington Phoenix, however the Reds’ joy was short lived as they suffered a hard 4-2 loss to the Phoenix in New Zealand.

Adelaide have conceded 14 goals in their past four games, and desperately need to tighten up their backline if they wish to have any hope of catching up with the sides in the top four.

First-choice goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic is still out for the Reds after undergoing knee surgery, and 21-year-old replacement John Hall must get rid of the big game jitters if he wishes to be a worthy understudy.

The Newcastle Jets were dissapointed with a 1-all draw to the Central Coast Mariners in their last fixture.

The Jets found the net late in the game against a 10-man Mariners, however Newcastle couldn’t hold on to the lead as Central Coast found the equaliser deep into stoppage time.

Newcastle are also coming off negative results against Adelaide, including a 7-nil destruction back in January.

The last time these two sides faced off was back in March, when Marcelo Carrusca found the net in the 28th minute to earn Adelaide the 1-nil win away from home.

Both sides will be desperate for three points, but Adelaide have more on the line. If they can avoid to be caught on the counter, they should be able to earn their first win of the season.

Prediction: Adelaide United 2–1 Newcastle Jets.

Can Adelaide United get their first win of the season, or will the Newcastle Jets regain their early form?
