MATCH RESULT

FULL TIME: Central Coast Mariners 0 – 2 Western Sydney Wanderers

After a scoreless first half, both sides came out in the second half looking for the win.

Romeo Castelen missed many chances, hitting the post and missing certain goals, however it did not matter in the end as his side got the points.

REPORT: NICHOLLS DRIVES WANDERERS TO WIN

Many Western Sydney fans left in the 30th minute of the game, and there was a noticeable dent in the atmosphere as a result.

Brendon Santalab came on as the super-sub in the second half, and fired a brilliant shot past Paul Izzo to give Western Sydney the lead.

Nick Fitzgerald nearly got one back late in the game, however he was denied by some brilliant goalkeeping by Andrew Redmayne.

MATCH PREVIEW

The Central Coast Mariners will be eager to put a disappointing recent run behind them when they host the Western Sydney Wanderers in Gosford. Join The Roar from 5:00pm AEDT for live scores and commentary.

Coming off a 2-1 loss to Melbourne Victory in their last fixture, Central Coast finds themselves in a rut early in the season, with just five points and one win after seven games.

The Mariners seem to have made a habit out of giving away points that arguably should have been theirs, and they will be eager to shut out Western Sydney who were in a similar position to them last season.

However, the Wanderers seem to have moved on from last season’s disappointments, and the Mariners seem to have stayed in the same place.

Young Central Coast goalkeeper Paul Izzo will be desperate to impress, the newly-appointed A-League starter will no doubt be under pressure between the sticks against a firing Western Sydney side.

Coming off four-straight wins, the Western Sydney Wanderers seem to have put a disastrous 2014-15 A-League campaign behind them.

The Wanderers are coming off a narrow 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix. Mark Bridge found the net in the 85th minute to steal the game for Western Sydney and break the hearts of the Phoenix.

Despite positive results, it’s the Western Sydney fans that find themselves in the headlines. After a recent privacy breach of A-League fans, the Wanderers fans are rumoured to stage mid-match walkouts in protest.

The last time these two sides faced off was back in April, where Joshua Rose’s goal in just the second minute of the match was enough to clinch the Mariners the victory.

Both sides are expected to come out firing, but so far it’s the Wanderers that have been on target.
