Match result:

Both sides had their chances on Sunday night, but in the end Adelaide United managed to hang on to their lead and extend their unbeaten run to nine games.

REPORT: REDS CONTINUE UNBEATEN STREAK

It was an intense start to the game, with Milos Trifunovic and Leonardo both copping yellow cards within the first five minutes of the game.

It was back and forth, and just as it seemed that the Newcastle Jets were going to take control Marcelo Carrusca found the ball after a fortunate deflection and tapped it into an empty net.

Newcastle probed and probed in the second half, and despite several chances they failed to hit the target time and time again.

It’s another win for Adelaide, who move closer and closer to a top four spot. For Newcastle, it’s another week of disappointment.

Final score
Adelaide United 1
Newcastle Jets 0

Coming off a huge 4-1 win over Brisbane Roar, Adelaide will be eager to keep the momentum going.

A Roar own goal opened the scoring, before Brisbane put one in the right net after halftime. However, Bruce Djite found the net twice within two minutes shortly after, before Marcelo Carrusca nailed Brisbane’s coffin in injury time.

Having scored ten goals in their past three games, Adelaide are on fire and will show the Jets no mercy as they look to extend their unbeaten run to nine games.

After a big win over the Wellington Phoenix two weeks ago, Newcastle were bulldozed by the Perth Glory in their last fixture.

A strong start saw the Jets secure an early lead via Milos Trufunovic, before they fell asleep and the Glory scored twice before halftime. A red card for Nigel Boogaard didn’t help Newcastle, and they went on lose to 6-1.

Still, the Jets can cause big problems up front through the likes of David Carney and Trifunovic.

The last two times these sides faced off, the matches were nil-all draws. But with Adelaide in spectacular shooting form, and Newcastle desperate for goals, don’t expect that to happen again.

Prediction
Adelaide United 4-1 Newcastle Jets
