This Sunday two MMA and UFC Heavyweight veterans Mark Hunt and Frank Mir will fight in the main event at UFC Fight 85, Brisbane.

The fight looks set to be an entertaining one as both Hunt and Mir are notoriously known for incredible knockout victories. In the co-main event, experienced Welterweight and Australian Hector Lombard will fight No.9 ranked Welterweight Neil Magny.

Exciting Aussie Lightweight Jake Matthews will also be on the card as he fights journeymen Johnny Case.

Overall, the card will feature 6 Australians and 3 New Zealanders, which will no doubt be a fantastic showcase for the local fighters.

Heavyweight Bout – Mark Hunt (11-10-1) versus Frank Mir (18-10-0)
This heavyweight main event is sure to be an exciting one. Hunt, who fights out of Sydney, is very well known for vicious one-punch knockouts, while Mir is a submission specialist with eight submission victories in his long career.

Both Hunt and Mir have also fought for the UFC heavyweight championship, as Mir is a two-time UFC heavyweight champion, while Hunt fought current champion Fabricio Werdum for the then interim title when Cain Velasquez pulled out of UFC 180.

Hunt is coming off a first round TKO of Antonio Silva at UFC 193 in Melbourne back in November and Mir is looking to rebound after a unanimous decision loss to fellow veteran Andrei Arlovski at UFC 191 in September last year.

Prediction: This fight won’t last long. Both men swing their fists like crazy, so a knockout could definitely be expected. If Mir can take the fight to the ground, his submission game could become a huge factor, but for me, with the home crowd advantage and a little more technique in his stand up, I have Mark Hunt winning by KO/TKO in the first round. Should be a cracker!

Welterweight Bout – Hector Lombard (35-4-1) versus Neil Magny (17-4-0)
This fight is an interesting one, as there are many interesting variables affecting it. For instance, Magny will step into the octagon ten years younger than Lombard, but he will have the upper hand in terms of UFC experience with more than double the fights in the UFC.

That being said, Lombard has double the MMA fights, as he has been involved in other promotions such as Bellator, where he was the middleweight champion for a period of time. Also, Lombard is coming off a one-year ban after testing positive for anabolic steroids after his last fight, at UFC 182.

This means he could be a completely different fighter when not on the steroids. Overall, a win here for either fighter could secure them a much bigger name in the division for their next fight.

Prediction: It will be interesting to see how Lombard performs after a year off. With five fights in 2015 and a 10-inch reach advantage, I’ve got Neil Magny winning by decision.

Lightweight Bout – Jake Matthews (10-1-0) versus Johnny Case (22-4-0)
Make sure to look out for Jake Matthews. The up-and-coming Aussie star born and raised in Melbourne and at only 21 years of age, is looking for his fourth UFC win. Matthews will face Johnny ‘Hollywood’ Case, who is unbeaten in the UFC from four fights.

Prediction: Matthews by TKO in the second round.
