James Tedesco has been in talks with NSW coach Laurie Daley about what is required to earn State of Origin selection for the Blues.
Tedesco has been one of the in-form players over the opening three rounds of the NRL season as calls for him to make his Origin debut this year continue to grow louder.
The Wests Tigers star fullback said at training at the club’s Concord base on Thursday Daley has spoken to him about what he needs to do to crack the Blues line-up.
“Laurie said that he is watching and he is happy with how I am going at the moment,” Tedesco said.
“He said here are a few little things I have to work on, I am working hard at training to fix them up.
“It is good to hear (from Daley) but you don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself.”
Tigers coach Jason Taylor declared Tedesco ready for the Origin arena after his No.1 tore apart the Manly defence with a treble of tries in round two, after cautioning on his selection last season.
Tedesco said he had become accustomed to the hype.
“I am just trying to keep it out of my mind and focus on footy for the Tigers, but everyone still loves to talk about it,” he said.
“Sometimes it does get a bit hard when everyone keeps on asking and talking about it.”
Tedesco, 23, said he had leaned on Tigers captain Aaron Woods, who made his NSW debut at 22 for advice.
“Woodsy has been pretty good he came through at a young age and played for NSW and Australia and he handled it very well, he is cool and calm and his influence has helped,” Tedesco said.
