Adelaide United have received the A-League’s Premier’s Plate in bizarre circumstances, with a select few journalists the only crowd on hand to witness the ceremony.
Not even Adelaide’s full team was there to get their hands on the silverware, and no fans could be seen among the rows of empty seats at Coopers Stadium.
The decision to have such a low-key presentation was reportedly made by Adelaide, who want to focus all of the club’s attention on the upcoming semi-final against Melbourne City on Friday night.
It also avoided the awkward situation of presenting the Reds with the trophy after a season-ending loss should Adelaide go down on Friday night.
However, Reds fans are sure to be disappointed to have missed an opportunity to celebrate the team’s excellent home-and-away season with their favourite players.
Adelaide United lift the Premiers' Plate, and the entire Coopers Stadium cleaning staff go wild.

I'm told the Reds chose to not have the plate presented on Friday so as not to overshadow the occasion and steal player focus #ALeague
