Match preview:

The Sydney Roosters face a tough ask this afternoon as they take on a Canterbury Bulldogs outfit well in the running for a top four birth. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4pm AEST.

The Bulldogs occupied fifth spot on the ladder before the round started and will be keen to keep pace with the top four with a win this afternoon against the struggling Roosters.

Canterbury muscled their way to victory last week against the Tigers and are favoured once again to secure another win before the crucial Origin period begins.

The Roosters are a long way from where they were last season and now face a daunting task of winning ten out of their last 14 matches to make the finals.

Although Mitchell Pearce is back in the fold after a lengthy suspension, the Roosters are still suffering courtesy of a poor 26-6 defeat to the Titans last week.

After having a great try disallowed due to a non-existent obstruction, the Roosters lost their way considerably against the Gold Coast and can ill-afford another collapse against a Bulldogs team who are masters of winning the arm-wrestle.

With Origin selection on the horizon, Bulldogs big men David Klemmer, Aiden Tolman and Josh Jackson in particular will be keen to put the Roosters to the sword upfront in a bid to impress NSW selectors.

Roosters forwards Boyd Cordner, Aiden Guerra and Dylan Napa will also be keen to leave a strong impression today as they vie for NSW and Queenslandspots respectively.

Although this contest could end up being close affair, the Roosters have to learn to dig deep if they want to win today. Too often they have collapsed this season when unfavourable decisions or moments have hindered their ability to win matches.

If the Roosters can roll their sleeves up, their strong pack coupled with the brilliance of Latrell Mitchell could be enough to spring an upset.
