Parramatta Eels player Corey Norman has been issued with a court attendance notice following news that some of the pills he was caught with at the Star Casino in Sydney last weekend contained MDMA.

Norman will face court on two charges, one for possession of an illegal drug, and one for possession of a prescribed restricted substance. Norman’s legal team have already been issued with a court notice.

The prescribed restricted substance has been reported by Fairfax to have been muscle relaxants.

Possessing a prohibited drug in New South Wales carries a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment. If the pills are found to be MDMA then Norman has clearly broken section 10 of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act which states:

“a person who has a prohibited drug in his or her possession is guilty of an offence.”

Chief Rugby League report for Fairfax Adrian Proszenko broke the news on Wednesday Afternoon via Twitter.

The news comes after Norman, along with fellow Eel Junior Paulo and Penrith Panthers hooker James Segeyaro were snapped having dinner with bikies and alleged criminals, before Norman was stopped by a metal detector with a container of white pills. The incident forced the NRL’s hand, as they made a statement earlier today warning players about who they choose to spend their time with.

In light of those events the New South Wales Police have have officially warned all three players about consorting with convicted criminals.

It adds to a horror few weeks for the Parramatta club, who have endured punishment from the NRL over salary cap breaches, as well as the illness of star recruit Kieran Foran.

The Parramatta Eels play the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium next Monday Night.
