Gold Coast appear frontrunners to pick up blockbusting but inconsistent centre Konrad Hurrell after he parted from the Warriors.

Hurrell’s future at the Warriors has been under speculation for most of the year and the NRL club confirmed on Wednesday he’d been released from the remainder of his contract.

The Tongan international played just three NRL games for the Auckland-based club this season and was one of six players stood down from first grade after a late night out four weeks ago.

While several British Super League teams were interested in the 24-year-old, News Corp Australia reported the Titans were poised to announce Hurrell as their latest signing within the next 24 hours.

It’s not the first time Hurrell has been linked to the Titans, who have been seeking an outside centre for some time.

AAP was seeking comment from the Titans.

In 71 NRL appearances for the Warriors, Hurrell scored 41 tries.

He said he had mixed emotions at first about leaving the Warriors but was now excited as he looked forward to the rest of his career.

He thanked the Warriors for what they had done for him and helping him develop as a league player.

“I’m grateful to all the boys I have played alongside, all the people at the club and also the members and fans,” he said.
