Both teams have players backing up from State of Origin 2 on Wednesday night, especially the Broncos. Matt Gillett, Corey Parker, Josh McGuire, Darius Boyd and Corey Oates will all swap their Queensland jerseys for their familiar Broncos’ colours.

Sam Thaiday has also been named to back up for the Broncos, but he is very likely to have an enforced holiday after being reported for a tackle on Paul Gallen on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs have Josh Jackson and David Klemmer backing up from the Blues. Josh Morris withdrew from State of Origin 2 through injury, but has been named in the Bulldogs’ line-up. Morris’ twin brother Brett was rumoured to be returning from long term injury this week, but has not been named.

It’s been an emotional week for the Broncos, with captain Corey Parker revealing that this will be his 16th and last season before retiring. The Broncos will be keen to send him out with a premiership, just like the Queensland team have sent him out with an Origin series victory.

Both teams had a bye last week but Canterbury have had a more settled preparation. The Broncos have had to deal with several injuries in naming their team. Hooker Andrew McCulloch is still out, with Travis Waddell once again named in the starting line-up to replace him. Backrower Alex Glenn, centre Jack Reed and winger Jordan Kahu are also all out injured for the Broncos.

Sam Thaiday was named to play second row in place of Glenn, with Jarrod Wallace starting at prop. Another reshuffle will be necessary with Thaiday’s likely suspension. Tom Opacic comes in for Reed, and Greg Eden for Kahu. It will be 21-year-old Opacic’s NRL debut.

Prediction
It’s a good time for Canterbury to be playing the Broncos, who have several of their players backing up from Origin 2 and injury problems. The Bulldogs should win.
